66 detained for illegal entry in Khagrachhari

A total of 66 Indian nationals have illegally entered the Khagrachhari hill district through the Bangladesh border.

On Wednesday morning, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained them from several locations in Matiranga and Panchhari.

According to sources from the district administration, 15 individuals entered through the Taindong border of Matiranga, 27 individuals entered through the Shantipur border of Gomti Union, and 24 individuals crossed through the Rupsen Para border of Logang Union in Panchhari.

Among them, the 27 individuals who entered through the Shantipur border were staying at the house of Abul Master in Hazi Para of that area. Based on information from locals, a BGB patrol team detained them.

The detained 27 individuals claim to be residents of Gujarat. Despite being from Gujarat, the detainees are Bengali speakers. They were allegedly brought by plane from Gujarat to the border area, where members of India’s Border Security Force (BSF) facilitated their entry into Bangladesh.

Details about the remaining individuals are yet to be known.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Khagrachhari, Nazmun Ara Sultana, stated that so far, 66 Indian nationals have been brought across the border. BGB is handling the matter, and all the detainees are in their custody. The BGB is maintaining constant communication with the local administration and police. Efforts are underway to push them back as soon as possible.
